The Null Rod was a piece of the Legacy that Gerrard Capashen brought with him to Benalia City.

Description

The Null Rod was an elaborate metal rod, hollow in the middle. When the grip was twisted, the rod fired off a flashy yellow light accompanied by a loud hum. Although Gerrard described this light as "doing nothing", the rod's flash, in reality, prevented other nearby artifacts from being activated, although this effect was difficult to discern.[1][2]

History

Although Vuel stole the artifacts of the Legacy from Gerrard, he never put his hands on the Null Rod. Gerrard brought the rod with him to Benalia City, where he kept it while working as a master-at-arms. After the abduction of Sisay, he rejoined the Weatherlight Crew and brought the rod with him to Rath. There, the Skyship Weatherlight was boarded by Greven il-Vec, who defeated Gerrard and took the legacy artifacts, which he brought to the storage in Volrath's Stronghold.[1]

At the end of the Phyrexian Invasion, The Legacy merged with Karn. All of its powerful parts, including the Null Rod, united and gave Karn knowledge and power beyond other planeswalkers.
