The Abduction of Sisay was an event that took place on Jamuraa in 4204 AR.

Description

The abduction of Captain Sisay marked a turning point in the Weatherlight Saga, setting in motion the chain of events that would culminate in the defense against the Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria. This incident revealed the far-reaching influence of Rath’s Evincar and the lengths to which its agents would go to ensnare the crew of the Skyship Weatherlight.

While searching for missing components of the Legacy that had been scattered by Vuel years earlier, Captain Sisay encountered a Rathi fugitive named Starke. Claiming to possess valuable information about the whereabouts of the Legacy artifacts, Starke offered his knowledge to Sisay, guiding her toward key locations and furthering her mission. What Sisay did not know was that Starke’s motives were far from pure.

Starke had once served Volrath, the Evincar of Rath, under duress. His daughter, Takara en-Dal, had been taken hostage by Volrath to ensure his compliance. Desperate to see her safe, Starke entered into a treacherous bargain: In exchange for Takara’s life, he was tasked with delivering Sisay — and, by extension, the Legacy — into Volrath’s hands.

Before the betrayal, Starke had secretly approached Crovax in Urborg, revealing to him that the angel Selenia — whom Crovax loved — was imprisoned on Rath. This disclosure lured Crovax away from the Weatherlight in search of Selenia, unknowingly providing Starke with a place to hide after the abduction.

As Maraxus of Keld, a brutal mercenary in Volrath’s employ, pursued Starke across Dominaria, the fugitive saw an opportunity. Betraying Sisay, he orchestrated her capture through a planar portal and delivered her to the Stronghold, believing it the only way to guarantee his daughter's survival. In the process, Starke hedged his bets by leaving an ominous sigil-laden note on Sisay’s desk, which Mirri would later recognize as having ties to Crovax’s earlier dealings with Starke.

Ultimately, Sisay’s capture served Volrath’s true goal: to bait Gerrard Capashen, his hated rival and the chosen bearer of the Legacy, to Rath. The abduction both fractured the Weatherlight’s crew and forced their reunion, as well as the recruitment of Ertai, as they set course for the plane of shadows to rescue their captain and confront the emerging threat of Rath’s Evincar.[1][2][3]
