The Mythohistory of Dominaria is a term used to describe the earliest known period of history on the plane, encompassing the deeds of the world's most ancient legends. It is the era in which the great primordial beings of Dominaria first emerged, shaping both the natural world and the earliest struggles for power that would define the course of the plane's future history.
Description
Although most events from this distant age have been lost or survive only as myth, the Birth of the Elder Dragons — the spawning of the first true dragons on Dominaria by the Ur-Dragon around -20,000 AR — is generally considered the starting point of Mythohistory.[2][3][4] These first dragons, later revered and feared as the mighty Elder Dragons, became the progenitors of all dragon broods on the plane. In this age, they carved out empires, clashed with one another for dominion, and gave rise to the first remembered conflicts among Dominaria's great powers.
The Dragon-killers' War is regarded as the first great conflict between mortals and the Elder Dragons, and is often cited as the beginning of organized warfare on the plane. It was followed by the vast and devastating Elder Dragon War, a millennia-long struggle that led to the death or diminishment of nearly all Elder Dragons, leaving only a few survivors whose legacies endured into later ages.[5]
The Mythohistory era also encompasses the rise and collapse of other ancient dominions. The Fall of the Primevals marked the destruction of the primeval dragonlords who had inherited power from the Elder Dragons and ruled wide territories of Dominaria, while the Fall of the Numena describes the downfall of the godlike mages who supplanted them.[6][7] The era concludes with another cataclysmic upheaval with the Shattering of Madara, the world's first clash involving Planeswalkers, whose consequences reverberated throughout Dominaria's later history.[8]
