Groth Jonar was an orc from Balduvia who lived during the transition from the Ice Age to the Thaw of Terisiare, on the plane of Dominaria.
Description
Groth Jonar was a tall orc warrior, and general of the Balduvian orc clans. He always wore his armor, his baton always by his side. The story of his rise to clansmaster and general of the orc armies was a long one, and he told it at every battle victory feast.[1]
History
Groth Jonar was assigned to work with the Balduvian mage Elkan to battle the Kjeldorans. To Jonar's protests, Elkan recruited goblins of the Flarg to participate in the battle of Balesh Pass, but the mage let his schemes of letting the orcs get themselves killed slip to General Jonar right before the battle. Angered, Jonar locked the goblins in a trap between allies and enemies and used them as a distraction to attack the knights of Kjeldor. The goblins were slain, but Kjeldor suffered heavy losses and retreated. After the rout, a parley was called, and a furious Elkan demanded to know why Jonar appeared to be conceding the battle even as he was winning. Jonar responded by stabbing Elkan in the belly with his sword, killing him. As further punishment to Balduvia, he then let the remaining knights of Kjeldor retreat in peace, claiming only their battle standard as a sign of victory.[1]
