The Fall of Penregon was an event that cast a foreboding shadow over the new era that would come to be called the Dark Age.

History

Although Penregon, capital of Argive, was struck and damaged by the shockwave from the Sylex Blast in 64 AR, rebuilding efforts by Kayla bin-Kroog were initiated. The city would have recovered from both this event, and from the Siege of Penregon by the Church of Tal in 69 AR, as the siege was unsuccessful through the use of armed civil automatons built by Tawnos defending the city.

However, the falling temperatures and increasing snow cover each year after the Sylex Blast could not be denied. Penregon was situated in the northernmost reaches of Argive in the shadows of the Kher Ridges, and the city's scouts reported glaciers smashing through the northern peaks and growing larger year by year. Scouts also found greener pastures to the southwest, new cities being built in warmer climes past the mountains.

Kayla sent more of her people away each year, diminishing the city's population gradually. She sent her guard captain Myrel off on one of these expeditions, but Kayla herself remained as long as she deemed possible. In the end, only a few greedy noblemen and stubborn citizens were left - those who refused to leave even in the face of the marching glaciers. Kayla went with the last group of people and left Penregon behind, and the last holdouts stayed counting their gold until the ice took them.

While Penregon was the first city to fall to the approaching ice, it would not be the last. The era of the Ice Age was coming, and it would claim many more holdings of Terisiare over the millennia.
