Flight of the Ornithopter Discovery of Koilos Brotherhood's End

The Discovery of Koilos is an event that happened in the later part of the Time of Legends.

Description

At this time, Koilos consisted of a few crumbling buildings and a network of caves containing the last technological remnants of the Thran. This was all that remained of mythical Halcyon, the beautiful capital of the Thran Empire. Calculating the site's position from previously discovered Thran ruins, Urza, Tocasia, and Mishra found the caves during a subsequent Ornithopter expedition. Underway, they were attacked by a roc, forcing them to land their craft in front of the cave opening and rush inside.[1]

They found an impressive array of artifacts nearby, all left by the Thran. They entered the tunnels and discovered an unusually large powerstone in the Hall of Tagsin, which held a planar portal to Phyrexia closed. Urza and Mishra each claimed one half as theirs. Urza called his half the Mightstone and Mishra's the Weakstone, due to their effects. However, they unwittingly opened the portal between Dominaria and Phyrexia and were attacked by su-chi, forcing them to flee the ruins. The portal closed down again on its own after a brief time.[1]

Outside the cave, the roc still waited, so Urza had to hurriedly charge one of the spidery constructs lying half-broken outside the cave while Tocasia and Mishra hid behind a rocky outcropping. When the su-chi cave guards emerged from the caves, Urza manned the Thran Spider and shot its immolation charges at the bird, setting it afire. The burning bird crashed onto the scrambling su-chi, smashing them all to pieces. After fixing up the ornithopter, the three archaeologists headed back to Tocasia's Digsite, Urza and Mishra arguing over who should own both pieces of the powerstone.[1]
