The Cabal Pit was a huge arena in Cabal City, part of the Otarian contient on the plane of Dominaria.

Description

The Cabal Pit was the single most prominent feature of Cabal City. It was a huge arena controlled by the Cabal, and was infamous for its system of pit fighting. The arena itself was open-air, but was built over with dark and heavy overhangs that made it feel enclosed despite both its size and its lack of a real roof. Because of the very real dangers of pit fights getting out of hand, a necrotic barrier of protection covered the audience seating, so any magic would be blocked from accidentally (or purposefully) blasting the onlookers, and any biological material such as summoned beings or the pit fighters themselves would instantly rot away into a black goo if they tried to cross from the arena to the seating. The pit fights were used to entertain the citizens and earn money for the city and the Cabal, and sometimes replaced trials as a justice system in which claimants battled to resolve their cases.[1]

History

The Cabal Pit was built some time after 4050 AR, and was in activity for about 250 years until the Otaria crisis of 4305 AR.

Known fighters to participate in the arena events include:

  • Balthor Rockfist - fought alongside Jeska against Chainer.
  • Braids - fought alongside Skellum against Teroh, Baankis, Gobal, and Yewma.

During the Battle for the Mirari, the Cabal Pit was completely overrun by dementia creatures when Chainer usurped rulership of the Cabal and exiled the Patriarch to Aphetto. Chainer later lost control of the immense power granted to him by the Mirari in a pit fight against Kamahl and the Order. Cabal power in the area had already been greatly weakened, and the city itself suffered massive damage and was condemned. In the end, the ruined Cabal Pit was completely abandoned by the Cabal, who relocated all their workings to Aphetto and the Grand Coliseum.[2].[3][4]
