Bow's End Tavern is a cozy, student-favorite tavern located at the western base of the Dawnbow on Strixhaven's Central Campus. Known for its hearty food, strong drinks, and raucous atmosphere, the tavern is especially popular with upper-year students. It is managed by the friendly but formidable orc, Tulk "The Bulk" Tusktooth, and is infamous for its unofficial magical duels held in the back lot.[1]

Description

Bow's End Tavern is a squat, comfortable structure with an exterior carved in overlapping Strixhaven star motifs. Its dimly lit interior features mahogany floors and worn oak-and-leather furniture, fostering a warm, lived-in feel. Live music — often performed by students or faculty — frequently fills the air from the patio stage. The tavern is open from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on class nights and until 2:00 a.m. on weekends. During those hours, it's packed with students from every college unwinding after long study sessions.

The lighting is magically subdued but functional, and the ceiling height throughout is twenty feet. After closing, the tavern's exterior doors are locked and sealed with lock spells. Only select student employees and Tulk Tusktooth know the passwords to bypass these wards. The tavern also features accessibility magic: the steps between seating areas shift to accommodate patrons with mobility needs.

Notable locations

Locations on the map are marked with a letter and number

  • Back Exit (E5) — marked "Staff Only", these exits lead to the tavern's back lot and privies. They remain unlocked during operating hours and are used for supply deliveries and kitchen access.
  • Kitchen (E6) — the dwarven chef Curtie Axechucker presides over this lively kitchen with her unique approach to cooking: improvisation over precision. Her signature dishes and booming slogans — like "Make it spicy!" — are well-known. Four student cooks assist her in the kitchen, where cauldrons bubble with magical meals. A break room and pantry occupy the back of the space.
  • Main Dining Room (E2) — the heart of the tavern. Originally arranged neatly at opening, tables and chairs are quickly shifted by students engaging in casual gatherings and tavern games. Between fifty and seventy students typically fill the room, with at least four student servers working the floor.
  • Overflow Seating (E4) — the tavern's quietest section, perfect for those seeking a break from the din of the main dining room. Ten to twenty students are typically seated here, with at least one student server assigned to the area.
  • Patio Seating (E1) — a fenced outdoor space open to patrons and passersby alike. Live music is frequently performed here, and up to 35 students can be found dining, chatting, or enjoying entertainment under the stars. At least two student servers staff the area during open hours.
  • Servers' Station and Bar (E3) — the central hub of the tavern where drinks are mixed and food orders are passed to the kitchen. The menu includes such fare as caster's stew and rotating daily specials from head chef Curtie Axechucker. The drinks menu is diverse, and this area is often bustling with 35 to 45 patrons. Javenesh Stoutclaw, an owlin Lorehold apprentice, helps keep things orderly. Tulk Tusktooth also keeps a close eye on the crowd from here.
