Template:Character Tezzeret is a male human planeswalker from the Shards of Alara expansion. Born in Tidehollow on the shard of Esper, he specializes in artifice and mental magic. His current whereabouts are unknown, but he had joined a sect on Esper called the Seekers of Carmot who were said to possess the Codex Etherium, a sacred tome containing Carmot's teachings. He joined in hopes of seeing the Tome and inheriting its secrets.

The night he snuck into the inner sanctum to steal the tome, he was caught and the ensuing battle almost killed him. During this battle, his spark flared and let him escape. With his newfound knowledge of adjacent planes, he seeks the driving force behind the Seekers of Carmot.[1]

“  Tezzeret is a planeswalker who wields blue magic. His specialty is artifice: spells that forge artifacts, manipulate artifacts, and even bring artifacts to life, creating huge constructs from mere scrap bits of metal.

Tezzeret was a talented artificer from the Alara shard of Esper. Like all Esperites, he has part of his body "enhanced" by the magical alloy etherium, part of an overarching planar venture to create perfection of both body and mind.

Tezzeret became an initiate of a mage sect called the Seekers of Carmot in order to gain access to the Codex Etherium, a sacred tome the sect claims to have in its possession. When he intruded into the sanctum of the Seekers, he uncovered truths that others didn't want him to find, and he found himself trapped in a conspiracy much larger than himself.

Tezzeret has a very explosive temper (with frequent violent outbursts) and unscrupulous nature, and his primal driving force is a lust for power and knowledge. He is prone to punish people who failed him in severe and often brutal ways (if he needs them in the future), or kill them outright if he does not need them.

The Seeker's Fall

In the webcomic The Seeker's Fall, Tezzeret is portrayed as a student wishing to join the Seekers of Carmot, and after being defeated in a duel with Silas Renn, his powers aren't considered worthy enough. After being expelled from their Academy in Vectis, he proceeded to murder his teacher.[2]

Right after Renn gained a hearth of etherium to prove his membership into the Seekers, Tezzeret broke into the vault to gain access to the Codex Etherium, which proved to be a fraud: its pages were blank. He was then caught by the guards who tried to kill him, and accidentally flared his spark. Immediately after it, he found himself on Grixis not knowing how he got there or why.[3]

Miraculously, he managed to survive the hardships and attacks from Grixian monsters, and reached Nicol Bolas, who promised him power in exchange of servitude.[4]

In a non-specified future after his ascension, Tezzeret secretly built his own structure of agents inside Bolas's Infinite Consortium. In one fell swoop, he orchestrated the assassination of all high-positioned cell leaders who were directly subordinated only to Bolas, replaced them with own people and effectively took over the Consortium leadership.

Agents of Artifice

In the Agents of Artifice novel, Tezzeret seeks Jace Beleren to join his consortium. After training Jace, it is revealed that he is Tezzeret's ace against Nicol Bolas (whom he stole the consortium from).

At the end of the novel, he loses a duel against Jace and his mind is utterly obliterated. He also loses his etherium arm after Jace amputates it with his manablade. Nicol Bolas reveals that putting Jace against Tezzeret, with the help of Liliana Vess, was his plan all along, to regain the consortium. Bolas keeps Tezzeret, or at least his mangled and mindless body for undisclosed purposes.
