Four Modern Horizons 3 Commander Decks, a.k.a. MH3 Commander Decks, are released together with Modern Horizons 3 on June 14, 2024.[2][3]
Description
Each deck introduces 15 never-before-seen Commander cards to Magic: The Gathering. All reprints in the Commander decks have new art, suited to the Modern Horizons 3 theme.
The four decks each allude to a popular or infamous Modern archetype: Jund, Urzatron, Energy, and "Eldrazi Winter".
Contents
Each package contains:
- 1 foil-etched Display Commander card
- 1 foil Commander
- 1 additional foil Legendary card
- 98 regular cards
- 10 double-sided tokens
- 1 helper card
- 1 deck box
- 1 life wheel
- 1 Collector Booster Sample Pack (2 cards)
Legality
Despite using the Modern Horizons branding, these Commander decks were designed similarly to the Commander decks accompanying Standard set releases. The mechanically unique cards printed in these decks are not Modern-legal and the reprints aren't being added to Modern if they weren't already legal.[4] All cards in the decks are Eternal-legal.
Collector's Edition
A special Collector's Edition of the Commander Decks is released for this set. In the Collector's Edition, all 100 cards are foil, and every deck contains two showcase Borderless Profile cards.[5]
Mechanics
The MH3 Commander decks use Energy and Devoid from the main set.
Some other rare mechanics that are reused in the MH3 Commander decks on new cards are: Cascade, Encore, Escape, Fabricate, Flashback, Lieutenant, Myriad, Overload, Proliferate, Populate, Reconfigure, and Regenerate.
