Calix is a Theran Planeswalker who wields green and white mana.
Appearance and characteristics
Calix appears as a muscular young man with short-cropped black hair. He was created by Klothys, the god of Destiny, in order to reweave Elspeth Tirel into the pattern of Fate. He is a patient master tracker with a one-track mind. His powers over fate not only help him influence the future, but they also allow him to read the past. He wields flying needles and threads of destiny.[1]

So Klothys weaved her masterpiece — the Agent of Fate called Calix. Created solely to carry out the will of Klothys, Calix headed off in pursuit of Elspeth in order to preserve that which should be.
On her way to the exit of the Underworld, Elspeth clashed repeatedly with Calix, emerging victorious every time. After all, she was a seasoned warrior, and he was freshly made. Note on Calix's spark
Calix is artificially created and artificial creatures normally can't spark. It is implied that Calix's spark ignites because his entire purpose, his existence, is dedicated to the pursuit of Elspeth and he can't fulfill that without a spark and that strong desire and belief (which is a particularly strong influence on Theros) is what helped him push further.
Doug Meyer explained that artificial creatures like Angels and Demons which are manifestations of mana do not have the right soul/essence to hold a spark. While Calix is an enchantment, per se, he is indirectly made by mortals. Mortals' belief made the gods in their image, who in turn made a creature with a very mortal-like soul.[4]
