Equilor is one of the most ancient and distant planes in the Multiverse. Not much is known about this plane, as the only account of it was Urza's visit. Almost all that is known about Equilor is from the novel Planeswalker.

Description

Almost everything on Equilor appears fallow and spent, although there is also a single settlement and a road leading up to it. The road is made of gray stone cut in chevrons and fitted so precisely that not a blade of grass grows between them. The road is lit by cobweb globes hovering in the air. The night is full of life, with carpets of chirping bats, birds singing sweet yet mournful songs, and howls and growls. There are stars, but they are scarce. The mood on the plane is not ominous or inhospitable, but mysterious and secretive. The town is unfortified and is made up of graceful houses.[1]

The plane is inhabited by powerful beings, who are seemingly human. They wore knee-length robes over trousers, made of a silvery, lightweight fiber, rippling and sparkling as they move. Their dwellings' interiors are pure white, from flooring to furniture. It is not known if they are planeswalkers, or just a civilization that developed powerful magic. They are not immortal but are supremely long-lived, their life spans stretching for millennia. A toddler that Xantcha and Urza met was over 80 years old. They also appear to be immune to having their minds read. The Equilorans claimed that Urza found them only because they allowed him to do so. Supposedly, their magic can conceal the plane. They also have much insight into other planes in the Multiverse, with specific knowledge about distant things like the Formation of the Shard of Twelve Worlds. The people there also appear to have overcome their desire for greatness, and even boredom itself. The mountains on Equilor are flatter than most mountains, and look as though they were flattened only by time. A never-lifting mist known as the Eon Fog exists on the plane.

History

According to Urza, Equilor was the most ancient plane, from the "edge of time".[2][3]This indicates that Dominaria has not always been the Nexus of the Multiverse, as Equilor is undoubtedly older. The Equilorians supposedly began their search for enlightenment in -100,000 AR, which is the earliest known event in the history of the Multiverse.[1]

During the period of the Shard, Urza and Xantcha traveled there in hopes of discovering the origin of the Phyrexians. It took them far more than a thousand years to find the plane. The elders, mysterious spirits that live in caves in the mountains of that plane, told him that the Phyrexians couldn't reach Dominaria because of the Shard of the Twelve Worlds. They also cautioned him that Dominia (the Multiverse) is full of dark forces like Phyrexia, but that they will fall eventually. He talked about a great many other things as well and was in the mountains with the elders for nearly forty days at a time. Calmed by the revelations of the Equilorians and the splendor of the place, Urza decided to stay on Equilor. He was amazed by the knowledge the people of the world had gathered along its eons of existence and was also astonished that the Equilorians left it almost unused. Urza quickly devised many ways to employ it and wished to change Equilor into a mechanical paradise, but his intrusive plans weren't received well by the majority of the elders. Fortunately, Urza soon had to leave their home plane. The Shard had been destroyed, which again left Dominaria unprotected from Phyrexian forces. Once the elders told him of this, Urza planeswalked away to prepare Dominaria for certain invasion, never to return to Equilor. It took Urza a hundred years to planeswalk back to Dominaria.[1]

Known locations

A notable location is Bloodhill Bastion, a city on a hill that seemingly is created from living tissue. Sphinx-like creatures are guarding it.[4]
