Description
This article or section discusses story elements that are not canonical. |
The Horsehead Nebula is a globular cluster of stars located in the constellation of Orion and is visible from Earth. It is notable the location of the Ood Sphere - an ice-covered planet and homeworld of the Ood. The Ood are a long lived humanoid species with tentacles used for feeding purposes located on the lower portions of their faces. They have no vocal cords and instead communicate by telepathy. The Ood are notable for having two brains: a forebrain in the head and a secondary hindbrain that is usually held in their hands connected by an umbilical cord to their faces. The forebrain does much of the thinking and stores their telepathic sensors while the hindbrain processes memory and emotions leading to mental instabilities if removed. A giant Ood Brain is located on their home planet and acts as their telepathic center; if the brain is destroyed, it could kill the entire species, and if suppressed the mental capacity of the species is be severely weakened. Under normal circumstances the Ood are a gentle and harmless species but due to their brain structure they are susceptible to control and were once enslaved by Humans. Their passive telepathy also allows them to be easily manipulated or possessed by more powerful telepathic entities.
