The Lorehold Deans' Wing is a reserved section of Archaeo Memorial Hall on the Lorehold Campus of Strixhaven University. It houses the offices of the two deans of Lorehold — representing the principles of Order and Chaos — and provides access to an extensive array of institutional records, some of which date back centuries. The wing is situated on the first floor of the Memorial Hall and serves as both an administrative hub and a secure archive of the college's most sensitive historical documents.
Description
The architecture of the Lorehold Deans' Wing is consistent with the Pillardrop aesthetic: a seamless fusion of ancient stonework and modern university construction. Heavy outer walls reinforce the structure's defensive posture, while its interior passages reflect a quieter, academic purpose. The ceilings range from twelve to twenty feet in height, with record rooms and archives built to accommodate towering shelves of manuscripts, scrolls, and artifacts.
During daytime hours, the wing hums with quiet administrative activity — clerks reviewing records, staff consulting archived expedition notes, and graduate researchers sorting through centuries of institutional memory. At night, however, the wing is locked and largely inactive, its quiet halls protected by spiritual sentries and other security measures maintained by the college.
Portraits of past deans line the central hall, many of which are lightly invested with spiritual echoes of their subjects. The air is heavy with the presence of tradition and academic authority. The wing's secure areas are known to house not just records of students and faculty, but deeper research findings that span centuries of archaeological discovery across Arcavios.
Notable locations
Locations on the map are marked with a letter and number
- Administrative Office (L2) – A suite of modest workspaces used by Lorehold's clerical staff. Here, the day-to-day management of Lorehold's academic programs is quietly maintained through stacks of paperwork and archived correspondence.
- Dean Plargg's Office (L7) – The personal office of the Dean of Chaos. Spartan and efficiently arranged, the office reflects Plargg's academic focus on military history. Framed honors and ancient relics, including a ceremonial weapon, decorate the walls.
- Dean Tullus's Office (L8) – The office of the Dean of Order. Unlike its counterpart, this chamber is cluttered with books, research notes, and field reports from archaeological digs. Among the many papers are logs from expeditions that hint at unusual finds and curious changes in scholarly behavior.
- Deans' Reception Room (L6) – A central waiting chamber from which visitors are directed to either dean's office. During working hours, this space is supervised by an attendant responsible for managing appointments and communications.
- Deans' Records Room (L9) – A secluded chamber holding the accumulated research of Lorehold's past and current deans. Many of the discoveries recorded here pertain to significant magical relics and unresolved historical mysteries. A hidden doorway leads from this room to a secluded extradimensional archive.
- Deans' Repository – An extradimensional library accessible only via the concealed portal in the Deans' Records Room. This secluded archive contains rare and ancient materials, private research projects, and artifacts under active study. Its atmosphere is solemn, and the space is arranged for quiet contemplation and detailed analysis of historical objects.
- Main Hall (L1) – A stately entrance corridor lined with ancestral portraits of former Lorehold deans. Many of these paintings appear to retain spiritual impressions of their subjects, giving the hallway an observant and watchful atmosphere.
- Porch (L3) – Paved terraces located on either side of the wing, used for outdoor gatherings and informal discussions. Guarded by spirit statues, these porches are generally restricted outside of faculty-supervised events.
- Records Room (L4) – A vast archive housing centuries of Lorehold records, including staffing, enrollment, and curriculum data. Enchanted constructs help maintain the catalog system and ensure order in the collection.
- Restricted Records Room (L5) – A more heavily secured section of the archives, these rooms contain confidential student files and faculty evaluations. Access is tightly controlled, and any tampering is swiftly addressed.[1]
