Hazel Kenrith is a human princess of Ardenvale on the plane of Eldraine. The youngest child of High King Algenus Kenrith and Queen Linden Kenrith, Hazel is known for her mischievous streak and boundless energy. Though still a child, she shows signs of bravery and sharp instincts, as well as a growing awareness of the political and magical tensions threatening her family and kingdom.
Description
Hazel is headstrong, spirited, and clever, often bending the rules when she sees an opportunity for adventure or justice. Despite being forbidden to use her sling indoors, she keeps it close and trains with practiced precision. Her playful mischief conceals a strong sense of loyalty and courage, especially when danger looms. Hazel is deeply attached to her family, particularly her older siblings. She looks up to Will, often turning to him for comfort or truth when she is confused or scared. She shares a playful, if occasionally antagonistic, rapport with Rowan, who sometimes teases her but clearly respects her spirit. She idolizes her parents, especially Queen Linden, and is sensitive to the growing whispers among the court that challenge her family's legitimacy. Despite her youth, Hazel is already learning to navigate courtly intrigue and magical peril.[1]
History
During the aftermath of King Algenus Kenrith's mysterious disappearance, Hazel was the first to spot a blue faerie infiltrator in the royal castle. Using her sling, she killed the faerie mid-flight, protecting three younger children and alerting her half-brother Will Kenrith to the breach. The incident revealed growing instability in the realm, with faeries emboldened by the High King's absence.[1]
Hazel accompanied Will as he investigated whispers of disloyalty among the castle's garrison. She overheard slanderous rumors about Queen Linden's past — claims that she had murdered Will and Rowan's birth mother to seize power. Hazel, visibly shaken by the insinuations, confided in Will and asked difficult questions about her family's history. Will reassured her, recounting the story of his and Rowan's parentage, and reaffirming Linden's role as their true mother.[1]
Hazel's courage and curiosity frequently brought her close to the older Kenrith siblings' affairs. She witnessed the moment when Rowan and Will decided to defy tradition and set out on a quest to find their missing father. Though too young to accompany them, Hazel pledged her support and was tasked with informing Queen Linden of their departure.[1]
