Revolution on Mercadia Crovax's Coronation Prophecy War

Crovax's Coronation was an event that took place on the plane of Rath in 4205 AR shortly after the revolution on Mercadia.[1]

Description

Crovax’s Coronation refers to the formal installation of Crovax as the seventh Evincar of Rath, an event that marked the consolidation of Phyrexian power in the lead-up to the Rathi Overlay with Dominaria. Taking place within the Stronghold, the coronation was the culmination of a power struggle orchestrated both explicitly and implicitly by the Phyrexian Inner Circle to determine Volrath's successor as ruler of the plane.

The period leading up to the coronation was defined by political instability, military tension, and internal manipulation within the Stronghold. Following Volrath's mysterious departure for Mercadia, several candidates emerged as potential replacements, including the young wizard Ertai and the Predator captain Greven il-Vec. However, from the outset, Crovax — recently transformed into a Phyrexian life force vampire — demonstrated both the capability and will to dominate the contest.

Crucially, Crovax was granted access to flowstone control and enhanced physical abilities by Phyrexian modification, allowing him to overpower his rivals and suppress resistance. He quickly established de facto control over the Stronghold’s defenses and personnel, and his brutal suppression of dissent, including the mass execution of Vec, Dal, and Kor tribal hostages, further solidified his authority through fear and force.

The event of the coronation itself occurred in the aftermath of Volrath’s return to Rath, where the former Evincar challenged Crovax for the throne. Although initially formidable, Volrath was ultimately defeated — undermined, in part, by Ertai, who had come to believe that resistance against Crovax was futile. Following this, Crovax was formally recognized as Evincar by Belbe, the Phyrexian emissary, though she did so under considerable duress. Crovax's former rival Ertai allowed himself to become compleated, turning to the side of Phyrexia, and Volrath was gruesomely executed.

Crovax’s rise to power was not only a personal transformation — from embattled Weatherlight crew member to tyrannical ruler — but also a symbolic victory for Phyrexia. His coronation marked a transition from contested dominion to fully entrenched Phyrexian control over Rath, setting the stage for the planar overlay and the eventual invasion of Dominaria.

All was not lost, however, as the elven leader Eladamri, recently proclaimed the Korvecdal and uniter of the Rathi tribes, escaped the plane and Crovax's bloodthirst through a planar portal, joined by fellow rebels Takara en-Dal and Sivvi en-Vec.[1]
