The Hub was a giant cylindrical object resembling a volcano on Rath, which housed the Stronghold of the Evincar. The Hub was a vast machine that generated flowstone, forming the three-mile high mountain that was easily the most recognizable landmark on the plane of Rath.[1]
Description
At the peak of the mountain housing the Stronghold, the great Hub floated on a continuous stream of sizzling blue energy. The Hub received the bright energy lancing down from indefinite space above. The Hub's production of flowstone formed a giant volcanic mountain, three miles high and wide enough at the base to comfortably fit both the Stronghold itself and the large City of Traitors inside its hollow space and have room to spare. Like the entire plane of Rath, the Hub was an artificial structure rather than a natural formation. The mountain's inside was completely hollow and covered with metal and machinery, while its outside was formed of solidified flowstone that made it resemble a real mountain. The machinery of the Hub continuously spewed forth more flowstone, which flowed across the sloping surface and down to the plains below, contributing to the plane's constant increase in size.[2][1]
History
During the Rathi Overlay, the Stronghold was shifted to Urborg. The forces of the planeshift caused the Hub to break apart, exposing the damaged Stronghold to the open Urborg air. The skeletal frame of the Hub is still visible above the Stronghold itself, the flowstone having been stripped away, revealing its inner workings.[3][4]
