Teyo Verada is a planeswalker shieldmage from the plane Gobakhan. At his introduction in the storyline, he is nineteen years old.[1][2]
History
Origins
Teyo used to be the worst acolyte in the Order of the Shieldmage, which protects towns from diamondstorms.[2] He sought to use his protective magic to shield his people against the storms, but during an exceptionally harsh tempest his spark ignited after he was buried alive in the sand of the desert.[3]
War of the Spark
His inaugural journey to Ravnica has landed him among countless others of his kind: Planeswalkers, all drawn to the city-world in the culmination of Nicol Bolas's plot for power.[4] They were immediately stranded there, due to the Bolas's use of the Immortal Sun.
Araithia Shokta (called Rat) acted as Teyo's guide to Ravnica, after he had arrived. He was soon joined by Kaya and Ral Zarek, and the group traveled around the city to recruit the guilds holding out of the war, and gathering the leaders together to resurrect Niv-Mizzet as the new Living Guildpact. During the ritual, the building was attacked by the God-Eternal Kefnet, and Teyo created a barrier, holding it long enough to buy time for the ritual to finish and Niv Mizzit to be reborn. He survives the War of the Spark.[3]
