Mu Yanling is a blue aligned planeswalker and hydromancer from the Plane of Mountains and Seas, who is presumably human.[1]
History
Origin
After a violent wave devoured Mu Yanling's homeland, she was saved by a wanderer named Li Shan.[2][3] But when the two were traveling to visit the clan of Cloud Dream Lake, Li Shan suddenly collapsed. He was dead before Yanling could react. Holding Li Shan's body, poor desperate Yanling cried and lost consciousness, but when she woke up, Li Shan's body was nowhere to be found. Despite the sorrow and shock, it gave Yanling a glimmer of hope - could Li Shan be alive?
Yanling set off to search every corner of the world for some trace of her beloved mentor, from the Eternal Divided Realm in the south to the Dark Sea of Penglai in the north. She even ventured to the mysterious Ten Wizards Mountain seeking the secrets of time magic that might undo the tragedies of her life. She will not give up her search until she finds the truth of what happened to Li Shan, whether he is alive or dead.
After teaming up with Jiang Yanggu, Yanling journeys across worlds, digging for arcane secrets that might right the wrongs of her past.
War of the Spark
Mu Yanling and Jiang Yanggu were lured to Ravnica by the Interplanar Beacon, and immediately became trapped there due to Bolas's use of the Immortal Sun. Alongside many other planeswalkers and Ravnicans, she fought against the Eternals of Bolas' Dreadhorde.[4]
During the invasion, the trapped planeswalkers got together with Ravnican leaders to strategize. At Jace's recommendation, they decided to split up into teams to focus on specific tasks. Ajani, Huatli, Jiang Yanggu, and Mu Yanling volunteered to help protect and rescue civilians. With the help of Vraska and the Golgari Swarm, they were able to evacuate many civilians to the tunnels beneath the city, where they would be safe from the Dreadhorde.
Yanling survived the battle. She and Yanggu were among the first planeswalkers to leave Ravnica after Bolas' defeat.
