The article lists Alaran characters who have legendary creature cards, or feature within the storyline.

Child of Alara

Child of Alara

The Child of Alara is a legendary avatar of Alara spawned by the Maelstrom during the Conflux.[1] The Child looks like a large baby made of energy and is comprised of all colors of mana. It is a manifestation of the Conflux itself and showed no allegiance or mercy to any of the five shards. On its card, when the Child of Alara dies, it destroys all non-land permanents while not allowing them to regenerate. Miku, Child of Song is a skinned card of the Child of Alara from the Hatsune Miku: Digital Sensation Secret Lair in the 2024 Summer Drop.

Derevi

Derevi

Derevi is a legendary bird wizard from Bant.[2] While she soars above the battlefield, Derevi uses cunning strategies to outsmart her enemies. She orchestrates the movements of her great army as they fight invaders who would lay waste to the peaceful lands of Bant. Derevi's keen eyes can absorb a multitude of factors as she rapidly alters her plan to meet the changing conditions on the ground. Her devoted followers consider Derevi the greatest commander the Shards have ever seen.[3]

Thanks to her brilliant strategy, the Grixis hordes were routed at the Battle of Split Peak. Her clever diplomacy diverted the Esper Council in their plot against her. Derevi is disciplined but fair, and these qualities evoke loyalty in her soldiers. Always the literal eye in the sky, this commander had outmaneuvered her enemies time and time again.[4]

Estel

Estel is a human from Tidehollow on Esper. As a young boy, Estel was forsaken in the underground of Tidehollow, a place known for its filth, darkness, and desolation.[5] When he encountered Tezzeret, he became a symbol of the tragic cycle of poverty and hopelessness that defined life in Tidehollow. Estel, described as blond and young, was pushed into the gutter by his peers and left behind, showing his vulnerable status. Tezzeret, recognizing something of his past in Estel, offered him a rare opportunity for escape by giving him an etherium box, a weapon, and a mission to seek help from Knight-General Rafiq in Bant. This chance meeting transformed Estel from a mere survivor in a desolate environment into a potential bearer of hope.

Gyrus

Gyrus

Gyrus is a hydra of Alara.[6] Gyrus hunts in the swamps of Jund, one of the reunited shards of Alara, but not alone. Its heads dredge dead things from the murky water and animate them as shadows of their former selves. Zombified crocodiles, snakes, and other creatures serve Gyrus, bringing food to blunt the hydra's insatiable hunger.[7]

Represented in:

Jenara

Jenara

Jenara is the Asura Angel of war and strife, who has become the de facto leader of the seven Asura during the war that ravaged Alara after the Conflux.[8]

On Bant, seven angels, the Asura, form the highest angelic court, higher than the Amesha and lesser angels such as celebrants. Jenara has become the most important of all her Asura sisters, who have ruled Bant's angels during Asha's absence. She is left-handed.[9]

Jenara quickly made an impact in the war, becoming one of Bant's foremost weapons against the invading hordes at its borders. When she fights, she is so focused on the foe to ignore everyone around her, even wounded soldiers grateful for her appearance.[10]

Represented in:

Kess

Kess

Kess is a legendary human wizard from Alara.[11] Kess's home is one of the few pockets of life remaining on the devastated shardworld of Grixis. She harvests vis, a magical substance that holds small bits of precious life energy, in hopes that she can one day use it to restore what was lost.[12]

Represented in:

Lisha

Lisha, called Lisha of the Azure, is a human ship captain dwelling on Bant.[13] A tall, striking woman with dark blue eyes, Lisha's lips are always pained a brilliant azure blue.[13] Lisha rejected her formal role as princess of Jhess and became a privateer. Despite her royal family's disapproval, she sails the waters on her frigate, Sunspray, looting merchant ships along the coast of Jhess and Valeron.

Lisha is known for taking a small share of the booty for herself, giving a larger portion to her crew, and distributing the rest to the poor.[13] It isn't unusual for the Sunspray to attack a Jhessian port, take over its warehouses, and hand out the contents to the local Mortars and Unbeholden. Lisha has always escaped to her ship before the Jhessian cavalry could catch her. Following the reunification of Alara, Lisha reconised the need to work with denizens of the other shards.[14]

Quoted or referred to:

Maelstrom Wanderer

Maelstorm Wanderer

The Maelstrom Wanderer is an elemental of Alara spawned by the Maelstrom.[15] It is a 60-foot-tall walking storm of quasi-living magic that is purposeless and ceaseless. Its crab-like body is composed of green veins and vascular structures, fire and rock, and ribbons of blue arcane energy. Rather than being solely composed of energy, it appears to be an exoskeletal creature with a core of energy. The Maelstrom was the point at which the five shards of the plane of Alara merged: a huge, roiling, crackling whirlpool of mana, aether, and magic. The Maelstrom is mostly gone now but remains a site of bizarre, flaring magic and strange winds. As it is a towering elemental creature borne of the Maelstrom it tends to be found wandering the former Maelstrom's rim, into the wind, trailing blue plasma and licks of flame as it goes.[16]

Represented in:

Nazahn

Nazahn

Nazahn is a legendary nacatl artificer and blacksmith from Naya.[17] Once an ordinary blacksmith, his life changed when the Conflux merged his home with the shard of Bant. Nazahn found fame as a renowned weaponsmith for the knightly orders on Bant and now wields a magical hammer of invincibility that allows him to hold hot, fiery metal, without so much as singeing his fur.[12][18]

Associated cards:

Runadi

Runadi

Runadi is a Nacatl shaman introduced in Jumpstart 2022.[19] Runadi made his debut as part of the green Gigantic deck. He is a Nacatl godtracker from Naya who is known to call large behemoths to his aid. Godtrackers carefully monitor the movements of the gargantuans of Naya and offer sacrifices to keep them appeased. He wears a green robe, wields a spear, and uses incense.

Represented in:

Sen Triplets

Sen Triplets

The Sen Triplets are a group of legendary female human wizards from Esper.[20] Like other high-ranking peoples on Esper, they have fused their bodies with etherium making them more metal than flesh. They are said to be masters of the mind and related magic. This is shown by their ability to take control of an opposing player and allow their player to see and play their cards for the turn.

Represented in:

Uril

Uril

Uril is a legendary beast from Alara.[21] Uril appears to be a gargantuan beast the size of a mountain. It is humanoid, covered in fur, and has two large horns sticking out of its forehead. It is said to hide with the mists of the plane, able to stalk its victims despite its massive size. At some point after the events of the Conflux, Uril encounters Sedris, with the outcome of the encounter unknown.[22]

Yidris

Yidris

Yidris is a legendary ogre wizard born on the Grixis shard of Alara.[23] He was one of the Incurables afflicted with unstable mutations that threatened to shatter his mind. Though he was a mage, no magic could relieve his curse, and Yidris resigned himself to his fate.

During the Conflux, Grixis collided with the other Shards and the shattered plane of Alara was made whole. Knights from Bant drove Yidris directly into the Maelstrom, a volatile storm of raw mana at the plane's center. The unpredictable power of the Maelstrom stabilized Yidris' mutations, making the ogre a conduit for its chaos.[24]

Represented in:

Yurlok

Yurlock

The shaman Yurlok leads a thrash of viashino on Jund.[25] Utterly fearless, he hunts his prey in deliberately dangerous situations—lava flows make for quite the advantage when you know them like the back of your claw. Of course, a few viashino might fall in themselves, but that is merely the price of the thrash's survival. After the Conflux, Yurlok found his hunting grounds vastly expanded, and he believes Esper could use some lava-adjacent redecorating.[26] Yurlok's ability to cause players to lose life upon losing unspent mana is similar to the obsolete mana burn rule.
