At the end of April 2025, the Commander Format Panel is expected to release an update about the functioning of the Commander Brackets, the Game Changers list and the Commander banlist. The Commander Brackets are a system created by Wizards of the Coast and the Commander Format Panel that allows Commander players to communicate their deck's level of power in friendly matchups, tournaments, websites, apps, and other matchmaking tools. In this system, that was introduced in February 2025, Commander decks are voluntarily graded on a scale of 1 to 5 bracket tiers, each tier higher indicating that a deck is more powerful: 1) Exhibition, 2) Core, 3) Upgraded, 4) Optimized and 5) cEDH. Each may only contain a set amount of cards from the Game Changer list.
Cards that are unbanned in the Commander format may be placed onto the Game Changer list to restrict them from lower commander bracket games. In the news
