Lorris was a soldier of Inys Nohr, and daughter of the commander, RoNal.[1]

Description

Lorris was tall like a man, though not as tall as Jedhian. She towered over small Aylith. She had straw-colored hair done up in braids that let her tuck it into her helmet. She was competent and initially loyal to the Felonarch, but eventually turned on him for his crimes, swearing revenge.[1]

History

Lorris had participated several times in the raids on Inys Haen, including in the raid that saw Keeper Logan killed and his daughter Aylith imprisoned. Lorris initially viewed Aylith with a mix of curiosity and caution. During the long march from Inys Haen to Inys Nohr, she took note of Aylith’s resilience, particularly after the girl survived an encounter with a shroud. Though she never fully trusted Aylith, Lorris found herself begrudgingly impressed by her ability to endure.

When the raiding party returned to Inys Nohr, Lorris witnessed her father RoNal’s disgrace at the hands of the Felonarch Nazir. She was powerless to prevent his punishment and later found him abandoned in a dungeon, his back ravaged by the Walking Plague. She also encountered Jedhian, Aylith’s cousin, who had been thrown into the same pit as her father. In a desperate bid to restore RoNal’s honor and free herself from Nazir’s grip, she struck a deal with Jedhian: if he would help her rescue her father, she would aid in his and Aylith’s escape. However, their plans unraveled when RoNal sacrificed himself to the Frog, a monstrous creature lurking in the dungeon, ensuring that Jedhian would survive.

Shaken by her father’s death, Lorris resolved to honor his last wish. She aided Aylith and Jedhian in their escape, cutting a path through the chaos of the rebellion that erupted in the fortress. As Nazir and Malvos fled toward Inys Haen with their forces, she joined Jedhian and the young slave Arn in stealing a boat to navigate the icy River Sobus, braving the treacherous waters to pursue the Felonarch.

In the final confrontation, Lorris’s thirst for revenge reached its peak when she cornered Nazir after his forces occupied an empty Inys Haen. As she prepared to strike him down, Jedhian intervened, convincing her to take him prisoner instead. Though she begrudgingly complied, Nazir managed to escape, leaving Jedhian wounded. Ultimately, Lorris’s path brought her back to the ruined site of the Clan Tree of Cridhe, where she helped carry the exhausted Aylith after she had healed Nazir of his madness. She stood at the former Felonarch’s side as they recited the Awakening Ritual, witnessing the return of sunlight and warmth to the land, and the Mending of the Clan Tree. Though the battle around them ceased, she knew the world had changed forever. Freed from Nazir’s rule and her father’s disgrace, she chose her path in the new era shaped by Aylith’s sacrifice.[1]
