Aylith was the daughter and only child of Logan, the Keeper of Inys Haen. As such, she was a descendant of Haen the First.[1]
Description
Despite being a direct descendant of Haen, and being born with the sign of the Keeper - white gull-wing brows and fiery fingers, Aylith was not set up to inherit her father Logan's Memories simply because she was female. According to her father, the village elders would never accept her as Keeper, signaling an end to the line of Keepers without a Clan Tree of Cridhe to keep. She had sandy hair and large eyes, and her slender form was rather small for a full-grown woman.[1]
History
In the 520th year after the Parting, Nohrish soldiers descended upon Inys Haen to capture Keeper Logan and his daughter, Aylith, seeking to force an Awakening Ritual that would bring warmth to their frozen lands. The raid went awry when Thix, kinsman to the Felonarch, set buildings ablaze and attempted to assault Aylith. The Keeper and his wife Selka perished in the fire, and RoNal, leader of the Nohrish force, slew Thix to prevent further crimes. With Aylith in their grasp, the soldiers began their march back to Inys Nohr, unaware that Aylith's cousin Jedhian followed closely behind. Along the way, Aylith survived an attack from a shapeshifting shroud and formed an uneasy bond with RoNal’s daughter, Lorris.
Upon arrival in Inys Nohr, Aylith was placed under the watchful eye of Felonarch Nazir, who, disguised as a servant, enchanted her into revealing that she carried the Memories of the Clan Tree. Feryar, an elf in Nazir’s service, showed her the last living branch of the original Tree. Meanwhile, Jedhian attempted to rescue her, only to be captured and imprisoned with RoNal, who had been condemned for killing Thix. RoNal, infected with the Walking Plague, sacrificed himself to a monstrous creature called "The Frog" in the pit beneath the castle, allowing Jedhian to escape.
As rebellion stirred in the streets, Aylith, Lorris, and their allies plotted their flight. The mirkalbion, nocturnal slaves reliant on the ardre fungus, joined the rising mob. Forced to act, Nazir promised either an Awakening or Aylith’s cousin’s execution. Aylith revealed herself and shielded herself against attack by creating a Wall of Light with her magic, but Nazir struck both the wall and her down with the Soulslayer. Feryar, in owl form, carried her unconscious body away as the city descended into chaos.
Healed by a Stream of Life in the hidden elven sanctuary of Loch Prith, Aylith was told she could not mend the Clan Tree of Cridhe while consumed by hatred. Journeying into herself, she confronted her inner darkness and overcame it. Meanwhile, her allies sailed the perilous River Sobus and sought an alliance with the Far Clans, only for their emissary, Arn, to be led into a trap. Rescued by Feryar, Arn ultimately secured their support. As Nazir’s forces marched on the abandoned Inys Haen, Aylith arrived in secret. She nearly slew Nazir in revenge but, urged by Jedhian, chose to capture him instead.
Nazir soon escaped, leaving Jedhian wounded. Seeking finality, Aylith found Nazir half-frozen at the entrance to Loch Prith. Overcoming her vengeance, she healed him of madness and addiction. Together, they recited the Awakening Ritual as the battle raged between the Nohrish and the Far Clans, causing the Mending of the Clan Tree. As the sun returned, the armies ceased their fighting, and a new sapling Clan Tree took root, restoring balance to the plane. The mirkalbion, doomed without eternal darkness, were granted refuge in Loch Prith. With the Awakening complete, Aylith’s journey had restored light, life, and fragile peace to the land.[1]
