Inys Haen is a settlement on Cridhe located in the southwestern mountainous region.

Description

Inys Haen is located near the source of the River Sobus, surrounded by fields, orchards, and vineyards. A thorn wall surrounds the Blessingstone, which was broken during the Parting. Near the ravine's edge lies Jedhian's Hill. [1]

History

The settlement was named for Haen, the First Keeper without a tree, who lived through the Parting. For 520 years, the Keepers of Inys Haen tried to keep the peace but were harassed by raiders from Inys Nohr twice a year. The Curse slowly drained the land around the village of its natural resources, causing many animals to perish and plants to wither. Horses went extinct, winters grew longer and harsher, and the people fell into superstition and poverty.

520 years after the Parting, the Nohrish — descendants of Nohr and those who followed Nohr into the mountains — descended upon the village in a desperate bid to steal its magic. Seeking to claim the power of the Awakening Ritual for their frozen lands, they launched a brutal raid, led by the soldier RoNal. Their goal was to capture the Keeper and his young daughter, Aylith, forcing him to restore warmth to their barren homeland at the cost of Inys Haen’s prosperity. Chaos engulfed the village as Thix, a reckless noble kinsman of the Felonarch, set fire to homes and sought to ravage Aylith. The Keeper and his wife perished in the flames, and Aylith, the last Keeper, was taken from her homeland, leaving behind her cousin, Jedhian, who swore to rescue her. Before setting out, he buried Aylith’s mother, using a sword he had found discarded in the wreckage — a blade later revealed to be the long-lost Soulslayer.

In the wake of the Nohrish raid, Inys Haen became a shadow of itself, forcing many survivors to abandon their homes. When Aylith and her allies finally returned to Inys Haen, they found it empty, its people scattered or dead. The ruins of the Keeper’s hut stood as a grim reminder of the destruction wrought by the Nohrish. It was here that Aylith would ultimately face the final test of her journey, as the forces of Nohr and the gathered warriors of the Far Clans clashed in battle upon the frozen land. Aylith and the reformed Nazir, the former Felonarch, stood together at the site where the Clan Tree once grew. Reciting the ancient Awakening Ritual, they channeled the magic of the land and restored balance to the world, causing the Mending of the Clan Tree. As the sun warmed Inys Haen for the first time in generations, the ice receded, and a single sapling arose from the earth, marking the rebirth of the Clan Tree.

With the Mending complete, Inys Haen was once again whole. Though much had been lost, the village could begin anew, rooted in the strength of its past and the promise of a restored future. With the freed slave Arn as its new Keeper, the Clan Tree would continue to grow for 1000 years, reaching enormous size, and the village of Inys Haen would prosper with abundant fields, orchards, and meadows.[1]
