House Scarlet was one of the five powerful houses in Arathoxia[1], ruled by Lord Adam Carthalion, and after his death, the Scarlet Vizier. It was also known as House Ruby, after the red Mox which ended up in the possession of the Scarlet Vizier's ward, Liana of Minorad. The Moxes were later stolen by Ravidel and used to activate the Mox Beacon.

The Scarlet Vizier was killed in Ravidel’s invasion of the city, and the Scarlet Estate in Arathoxia was obliterated by a blast from the Planar Barge. The true Lord of the house survived, however, as Jared Carthalion, Adam's son, was left alive in the streets of the city.[2]

After Adam's death years earlier, Ravidel had taken over House Scarlet's seat of power - the Castle Melmereth on the plains north of Arathoxia. Jared Carthalion and his allies attacked the castle, and it too was destroyed, effectively ending the presence of House Scarlet. Jared himself survived again, however, and brought House Carthalion through the Planeswalker War that followed and beyond into the present day.
