Endrek Sahr (EHN-drek SAHR[1]) was a wizard affiliated with the Order of the Ebon Hand in Dominarian Sarpadia. Styling himself "Creator of Life and Race Architect", Sahr was responsible for creating the first thrulls as servants and objects of sacrifice for the Order.

History

Creating the thrulls

Inspired by Tourach's teachings of necromancy, Sahr altered the formulas, incorporating alchemy to create not undead but living creatures from dead flesh. It is rumored that Sahr stole the methods of thrull creation from Phyrexian technology.[2]

Experimentation

The Ebon Hand embraced the thrulls as a success, and Endrek Sahr became obsessed with creating stronger and more intelligent varieties. Seeing the vast potential for further uses, Endrek created the armor thrull to replace steel supplies that had run out from the dwarven empire. He also began to augment their capacity to think, creating the thrull wizard to assist in ceremonies. It's likely that he created the necrite and the mindstab thrull varieties as well as his purpose in design was to create powerful creatures that delighted in self-sacrifice.[3]

The interrogation

Sometime after the creation of the thrulls, the Order of the Ebon Hand captured a Yawgmoth Priest. Endrek Sahr visited the prisoner, trying to extract some secrets of the creation of artificial life from the phyrexian. However, the Yawgmoth Priest refused to give any information, telling Sahr that for Phyrexians there was no difference between artificial and true-life because all life is energy. The thrulls were a simple mockery of creation, because while Phyrexian creatures gather power from the ambient energy around them, thus evolving, thrulls would be always limited by the energy they possessed at their inception. The priest predicted, furthermore, that when Endrek Sahr would die, he would be punished at the center of Phyrexia, just like Mishra. However, the priest's words had sparked Sahr's imagination, probably giving him the idea of the creation of the Derelor (which would require additional energy from an outer source).[4]

Execution

Sahr's ultimate creation was the derelor, an extremely powerful equine breed of thrull. The derelor, however, required a constant supply of black mana to sustain, taxing the Order's resources. This failure prompted Sahr's execution. Endrek would not witness the Thrull Rebellion, but his mastery in design would be seen in the thrulls' capacity to destroy their masters, their creators, and all of Sarpadia itself.

Revival

Thousands of years after his own execution, Endrek Sahr was among many of those granted a second chance at life thanks to the ravaging rifts in time in Dominaria's post-apocalypse era. This time-displaced copy of the wizard would bear witness to the grisly remains of Sarpadia and the ruins his thrulls wrought, and returned to his original timeline with the Great Mending.[5]
