Loot is a male infant of a Fomori-like[1] beast species who was sought and found by the planeswalker Jace Beleren within Maag Taranau on Thunder Junction.
Description
Loot's body is covered in orange fur, and a single tuft of cream hair sits at the top of his head, wedged between two dark horns.[2] He has large green eyes and a long tail that is hollow at the tip. Inside, a blue orb flickers.
Loot has a map of the Multiverse inside his seemingly infinite mind.[3] He knows the endpoint of every Omenpath and can see planes coming to life and also returning to darkness. Jace Beleren perceives Loot's mind as a vast interior that is as solid as steel, rather than the delicate, crystalline structure he perceives in others.
History
At some point, Loot was sealed in suspended animation inside Maag Taranau.[3]
Nine years before the events of Outlaws of Thunder Junction, during the time Jace Beleren was part of the Infinite Consortium, Tezzeret sent him to the then unsettled plane of Thunder Junction to investigate Maag Taranau, to find something Nicol Bolas was afraid of.[3] Jace detected a slumbering, childlike mind deep within the vault, but could not get in. After relaying this to Tezzeret, they never discussed the vault again.
Seven years later, months after the War of the Spark, Jace asked Tamiyo about the vault.[3] She opened a scroll and told him about the strange creature inside the vault, including his gender and presumably his capabilities.
At the top of the innermost platform within Maag Taranau was a pod-like structure encased in glass.[2] Metal stretched around the glowing sphere, marked with an ancient script and surrounded by threads of amber magic. Behind it was a mural of an enormous horned creature, towering over the platform like a guardian. When the planeswalker Oko approached the pod, he noticed a shape moving behind the glass, too obscured by a cloudy haze to make out properly.
Jace Beleren, disguised as Ashiok, revealed that he had been looking for the creature inside, Loot.[2] He pressed both hands to the glass, and the pod shattered. Loot rested on what was left of the altar. After that, Jace and his collaborator Vraska disappeared with Loot.
Bloomburrow
Vraska, Jace, and Loot traveled to Bloomburrow.[4] It's unclear if the plane's magic changed his appearance to match its native animalfolk.
