Volrath's Laboratory was part of the Evincar of Rath's domain, located inside the Stronghold's structure. The Stronghold was later shifted to Urborg on Dominaria.
Description
Volrath's Laboratory was a room where the Evincar placed many of his experiments, full of glass jars and beakers, as well as live specimens in large vats. Volrath considered prisoners to be raw material for his loathsome tests, so it is no surprise that Volrath's Dungeon and the lab are housed in the same building. Volrath’s personal operating theater was set up so that a large audience can watch the experiments, which are designed either to “improve” the subjects or simply to mutilate them and measure their reactions for future reference. Ultimately, Volrath worked towards the transcendence of the flesh, his own form being a perfect example of such engineering.
Chances are that slivers, spikes, and licids were first created here, or at least adapted from a more benign species. The moggs were first adapted from normal goblins within this chamber, and an enforced breeding program brought the Mogg numbers up to the multitude that existed when Volrath was evincar.[1]
History
During the assault on Rath, part of the Weatherlight Crew entered Volrath's Laboratory while searching for Sisay and Takara. They found several of his twisted experiments and saw Sisay in one of the vats, but when they broke her loose, she turned out to be a shapeshifter and attacked them. After killing it, Gerrard and Mirri smashed all the glass tubs, vats and tubes they could find before moving on.[2]
During the Rathi Overlay, the laboratory was shifted with the rest of the Stronghold to Urborg on Dominaria, but it is not known if it was destroyed in the process.
