Volrath's Dungeon was part of the Evincar of Rath's domain, located inside the Stronghold's structure. The Stronghold was later shifted to Urborg on Dominaria.

Description

Volrath's Dungeon was a room where the Evincar placed his prisoners. Containing special cells that allowed for a unique way to torture each inhabitant, the dungeon saw untold horror daily.

Volrath considered prisoners to be raw material for his loathsome tests, so it is no surprise that the prison block and Volrath's Laboratory are housed in the same building. The prison is more than a collection of mundane cells: Many of the chambers are fitted with devices to torture their occupants as well as restrain them. This torture is sometimes physical, but always psychological. Many of the cells are custom fitted.[1]

History

During the assault on Rath, Karn and Tahngarth were taken to the dungeon, and each was tormented in a manner particularly terrible for them. Tahngarth was exposed to a mutagenic ray, which painfully warped his appearance, bleaching his fur, bending his horns, and causing various other mutations. This torment was specifically designed to wound Tahngarth's pride. Meanwhile, Karn was placed in a room filled with moggs and a floor that suddenly tilted, which made Karn topple onto several goblins at a time, crushing them to death. This stuck particularly deep for the pacifist Karn, who could not help but kill even if he stood completely still.

Karn and Tahngarth were both rescued from the dungeon by Gerrard, Crovax, Mirri and Starke.[2]

During the Rathi Overlay, the dungeon was shifted with the rest of the Stronghold to Urborg on Dominaria, but it is not known if it was destroyed in the process.
