Description

Volrath's Gardens were a pair of gardens flanking the docking carapace of the Stronghold on Rath. They were added by an evincar who was preoccupied with plant life, though Volrath later put his name on them. The gardens were home to numerous plants and animals, but the animals were little more than food for the plants, which were predominately and sometimes aggressively carnivorous.[1] Few of the plants ate their prey's flesh: rather, they drank its blood. Some species were seeded upon the plains to test their tenacity.

History

After the battle in the Dream Halls, a blinded Starke il-Vec led by Gerrard Capashen and a dazed Sisay, as well as Volrath in the secretly shapeshifted guise of Takara en-Dal, ventured to Volrath's Gardens as the agreed-upon rendezvous point where they met with the Skyship Weatherlight chased by the Predator and a pair of mogg-ridden ornithopters. After Hanna used the ship's focus light to blind one mogg with a bright beam, causing it to crash, Tahngarth tackled the other by jumping onto the craft mid-air, causing the pilot to tumble off and get speared by one of the garden's branches. At the same time, Crovax and Mirri tumbled off the ship, fighting tooth and nail with each other, falling through heavy branches and onto the green floor of the gardens. As Sisay, Takara-Volrath, and Starke were helped aboard, Gerrard saw that Mirri had almost succumbed to Crovax, allowing him to drink her blood. She knew she would need to sacrifice herself if Gerrard were to live, and she managed to communicate that to Gerrard as she lay dying. He climbed on board, and the ship raced from the gardens, with the Predator in tow, while Crovax finished off Mirri and walked into the Stronghold.[2]

During the Rathi Overlay, the gardens were shifted with the rest of the Stronghold to Urborg on Dominaria, but it is not known if they were destroyed in the process.
