Description

The Rushwood is a vast forest stretching for miles to the southwest of Mercadia City. However, it does eventually end in the southern direction, where it borders the Outer Sea.[1]

The ancient forest of Rushwood was an imposing sight. Tree trunks, as wide around as mansions, reached to the sky. They were packed as tightly as teeth in a titan's smile. The lower boles and root bulbs fused into a smooth, sloping wall a hundred feet high. Above it, trunks divided and soared straight up, mossy columns in a colossal temple. They supported a lofty and dense ceiling of foliage and vines. Trees receded into dim infinity.[1]

Beasts such as wumpus and horned trolls live in the woods. The Cho-Arrim, a spiritual and mystical people, live under the care and protection of the forest itself. The Mercadians are always on the lookout for the Cho-Arrim, rebels against the magistrate's rule. There ran a Great River through Rushwood, which would shift as the forest shifted for the people of the Cho-Arrim. It was believed that the River was the path to the afterlife, followed by recently departed souls. The sacred healing Fountain of Cho fed its glowing waters into the River.

History

In 4205 AR, Orim was brought to the Rushwood aboard the Skyship Weatherlight by the Cho-Arrim alongside the wounded Drianan and Klaars and Drianan. While the injuries of the two others led to their respective deaths, Orim was unharmed and was allowed to roam freely through the woods. She stayed for a month in the Cho-Arrim village in Rushwood, learning their language, culture, and history. Then, a contingent of Mercadian soldiers led by Gerrard Capashen attacked the village, slaughtering most of its inhabitants, including Is-Shada, Is-Meisha, and Ta-Spon. Cho-Manno was also assumed to be killed, though he survived unseen. When Gerrard realized he was working for the wrong side, he ordered hostilities to stop but had to resort to killing his troops, including two cateran. For this, he, Orim, and the other members of the Weatherlight crew were arrested, and brought to Mercadia City.[1]
