The Ancestral Mask is an ancient and powerful enchantment-bestowing artifact that was hidden within the tomb of the Cho-Arrim shaman Sia-am-Erh in the Rushwood of Mercadia.[1]

Description

The Ancestral Mask is made of shards of pottery that reflect the wearer's experiences and personality in life, molded onto the person's face after death. Each shard is unique in form, color, and pattern, each shard representing a different aspect of the original wearer. The mask attracts the souls of the river in the form of golden moths.

History

Many years after Sia-am-Erh's death, her mask was discovered by the Cho-Arrim Cho-Akhan. After 'Akhan's village was struck by plague from Mercadia City, and her brother Cho-Ran died from the sickness, she decided to wield the Ancestral Mask to protect her village and conquer the plaguebearers from the city.

The Ancestral Mask took control of 'Akhan's body and plummeted her into the river, where she bonded with the souls of the deceased Cho-Arrim, including her brother. Each soul picked off a shard of the mask, leaving behind a jagged set of scars on 'Akhan's face, and imbuing her with their power.

Thus armed, 'Akhan and her two mothers, Cho-Shadi and Cho-Fihad, prepared for war with Mercadia City.
