Syr Ginger (or Gynger[1]), the Meal Ender, is a food golem.
Description
Syr Ginger is a gingerbread woman also known as the Mother of Cookies, the Sole Survivor of the Boiling Cauldron, and the Last of Her Batch.[1] She rides a gingerbread horse named Cinnamon.[2]
History
Syr Ginger was created by the baker Brenard.[3] She awoke on a baking pan in the Castle Ardenvale kitchen connected to a gingerbread man (they were baked to look as though they were holding hands) as the planeswalker Garruk broke in and began causing destruction. As they both attempted to escape, they were doused in milk from a broken jug and nearly fell into a cauldron of boiling oil. The gingerbread man attempted to pull her to safety, but before she could climb up, they were separated by Garruk's axe, causing her to fall into the cauldron. She survived, however, and emerged only to witness the gingerbread man being eaten by Garruk, enraging her. Grabbing a fork, she leaped at the planeswalker attempting to avenge her fallen love.[4]
The details of Ginger's battle with Garruk are unknown, but she has apparently survived to fight another day.
Trivia
- Syr Ginger was the primary protagonist of the trailer for Throne of Eldraine and appears in the trailer for Wilds of Eldraine.[4][5]
- Inspired by that trailer, Syr Ginger was in the design file for Wilds of Eldraine from very early on. She was always a food creature that hated on planeswalkers, but set design amped her up to work great with other food too.[6][7]
- Though described as a golem, similar to Gingerbrute, she doesn't have that creature type.
