Chris Mooney was a finalist in the The Great Designer Search 3 in 2018, where they finished in third place. That same year, they started worked for Wizards of the Coast and now have risen to Principal Game Designer for Magic: The Gathering.

R&D

In August 2018, Mooney became a design contractor for Wizards of the Coast.[1] A year later, they earned a full time contract. Since January 2026, they are Principal Game Designer.[2]

Mooney wrote the Planeswalker's Guides to Eldraine and Ikoria. They are the current Council of Colors representative for Black.[3]
