Commander 2014, officially styled as Commander (2014 Edition), is a product in the Commander series that was released by Wizards of the Coast on November 7, 2014. It was announced at the Magic panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 26, 2014.[2]
Set details
Commander 2014 features five monocolored 100-card decks (337 different cards).[3] There are 61 new cards legal in Vintage and Legacy. Each of the five decks has 15 new cards.[4][5] The set introduced five new planeswalkers that can be used as a commander, and featured legendary creatures from Magic's past which didn't have a card before (Gisa, Geralf, Feldon, Jazal and Titania [6]). It also introduced the lieutenant ability word and double-sided tokens. The five planeswalkers were created bottom-up (abilities first), while the five historical legendaries were created top-down (character first).[7] Several older cards featured new art.[8][9]
Three Planeswalkers hail from the past. Teferi is depicted before he gave up his planeswalker's spark to seal a time rift,[10][11] Freyalise before she died while sealing another time rift, and Ob Nixilis before he became a demon.[12]
The basic lands are reprints related to each planeswalker's history. Guided by Nature and Peer through Time have reprints from Time Spiral because Freyalise and Teferi are from Dominaria. Forged in Stone and Sworn to Darkness have reprints from Zendikar as it is Nahiri's home plane and Ob Nixilis' current location. As there were no basic lands in Conspiracy to represent Fiora, the basic lands in Built from Scratch are reprints from core sets.
Each packaging also came with an oversized foil version of each deck's main planeswalker commander.

Notable cards
- Commander's Sphere immediately became one of the most heavily played mana rocks in the Commander format.
- Myriad Landscape sees significant casual play as a land that can produce significant ramp and mana fixing.
- Dualcaster Mage sees significant play mostly because of its ability to combo with spells such as Twinflame to result in infinite hasty bodies.
- Song of the Dryads is a popular removal spell as it can permanently remove a commander without the option of returning it to the command zone.
- Containment Priest would end up as a powerful sideboard card in Legacy and Vintage, as well as Modern after being reprinted in a later Standard-legal set.
- Assault Suit is the first printed card to prevent a specific creature from being sacrificed.
- In addition to being part of the same cycle, the siblings Ghoulcaller Gisa and Stitcher Geralf have mechanical references to one another; Geralf produces a single zombie with high power and toughness, and Gisa can sacrifice a large zombie to create many smaller ones.
