James Hata

James Hata is a game designer, formerly working for R&D at Wizards of the Coast.[1][2] He worked for the company between September 2011 and August 2017.

James was introduced to Collectible Card Games in the sixth grade with Magic: the Gathering. He also played many other CCGs including Yu-Gi-Oh!, VS System and Universal Fighting System. Eventually, he entered tournaments for UFS. He won the 2007 US National Championship and World Team Championship. He was also able to win the World Championship at Gen Con the following year, getting hired at Fantasy Flight Games soon afterward to be the new developer of the UFS product line. Among other things, he was a developer for the Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game.[3] For WotC, James mainly worked on Duel Masters and Kaijudo.
