Leori was a female patagia tiger bonded to Lukka.[1][2]

Description

Leori was a large winged cat. She was huge, easily taller than a man, and longer than a cart. Her basic form was cat-like, with thick white fur cut by light brown stripes. Her fangs included two long canines that protruded beyond her lower lip like a pair of swords. She had leathery wings that let her glide easily despite her size. She was very smart.[1]

History

Leori flew into Drannith's Second Ring, killing a few horses and Coppercoats, before going into hiding. Lukka's Coppercoat Specials were called in to deal with her. After mauling Gox, she went after Epha, who had set up a trap for her, but Leori sensed the danger and did not pursue. Instead, it bounded after Gedra, who had shot her with a crossbow bolt and snapped her neck. Lukka ordered Epha to run, and as Leori turned to pounce on her, he stepped between them defensively. They lunged at each other simultaneously, and then a flash of green light caused them to pause in their tracks.[1]

In an instant, Leori and Lukka had bonded. Lukka could feel the cat's pain and hunger, but also something that appeared to be ordering it to attack Drannith. Lukka pushed on that feeling, and it snapped. Leori instantly flew away, landing in the Third Ring, while an unconscious Lukka was carried away to the infirmary.[1]

After bonding with Lukka, Leori tried to protect Lukka's humanity. When Jirina and Mzed's monster hunters caught up with them, she plucked both Lukka and Vivien Reid with her and flew north to let Lukka meet other bonders. She joined them in the Battle at the Ozolith, where Abda and Rigi were killed. Lukka bid her rescue Jirina from Falk's skyship, which she did, bringing Jirina to the Egali plain to drink from its river, then on to Drannith. [1]

Not realizing the danger of the armed ballistae on Drannith's walls, and with Jirina unable to accurately communicate with the tiger, Leori fell victim to several bolts as she swooped down to deliver Jirina. Twisting in mid-air to save Jirina's life, Leori was pierced in several places, but survived. She was placed in chains while Jirina recuperated in the infirmary. General Kudro bid her daughter execute Leori, but Jirina refused. Kudro then took the matter into his own hands. Leori's last act was to communicate to Lukka through the bond, expressing comfort and sorrow. Lukka was enraged by her death and gathered an army of monsters to start the Siege of Drannith.[1]
