Healing of Zendikar Battle for Kaldheim Oriq Attack on Strixhaven

The Battle for Kaldheim was a pivotal conflict that took place during the Mending Era on the plane of Kaldheim. Triggered by the magical catastrophe known as a Doomskar, it saw undead, demons, giants, and other threats pour into Bretagard and neighboring realms through torn realm rifts. Key figures from the human clans and elven houses, aided by the planeswalkers Kaya Cassir, Niko Aris, and Tyvar Kell, joined forces to repel the invasion and seal the rifts. The battle culminated with the return of the Sword of the Realms to Halvar, God of Battle, who performed a powerful ritual to end the Doomskar. In the aftermath, the source of the conflict was revealed to be the meddling of Tibalt, who had aligned himself with the forces of New Phyrexia.[1]

Description

As chaos spread across the realms of Kaldheim, representatives of Bretagard's human clans gathered at the Beskir Stronghold. Arni Brokenbrow of the Tuskeri and Fynn, the Fangbearer of the Kannah arrived to meet with Inga Rune-Eyes, Sigrid, and two unexpected guests: Tyvar Kell, prince of the elves of Skemfar, and Kaya Cassir, a planeswalker from another world. Although tensions rose — especially between Fynn and Tyvar — Sigrid urged unity, revealing that the realms faced a shared threat: trolls, giants, demons, and even the undead draugr were pouring in from other realms due to the Doomskar.

Kaya presented the Sword of the Realms, a powerful Tyrite weapon completed by the late smith Koll, the Forgemaster. Although the knowledge to wield it seemed lost, the god Alrund appeared and revealed it had been made for Halvar, God of Battle, who alone could master it. The group set out to find him.

They soon spotted a rift between realms tearing open near a village, through which a massive undead army from Karfell emerged. Halvar alone held a narrow bridge against the draugr, but the heroes needed to reach him. As they flew toward the battle on giant ravens, the demon Varragoth attacked, sending Kaya, Tyvar, and Arni plummeting from the sky. Kaya managed to phase them into incorporeal form just before they hit the river below, saving all three. They washed up near the advancing draugr, shaken but alive, and ready to rejoin the fight.

As Kaya, Tyvar, and Arni fought through the draugr army, Arni held the horde back so Kaya and Tyvar could press forward toward the bridge guarded by Halvar. When an elven warhorn sounded, Tyvar saw his people arriving on the field and ran to intercept his brother Harald, King of Skemfar, determined to prevent further bloodshed between elves and humans. Kaya pressed on alone, narrowly surviving an encounter with an undead Torga troll — until Cosima, God of the Voyage, arrived and washed away the undead with a summoned wave.

Together, Kaya and Cosima fought their way toward the bridge, only to be intercepted by Varragoth, the demon lord. Kaya injured him, but he proved nearly unstoppable. As more of his demonic allies descended, Kaya and Cosima were saved by the timely arrival of Tyvar and the elven army, now united under Harald. The elves formed a defensive line against the draugr and demons, allowing Kaya and Harald to reach Halvar.

Kaya gave Halvar the Sword of the Realms, which he accepted solemnly. Halvar began the ritual to sever the realms and end the Doomskar, while Kaya and Harald prepared to defend him. The undead pressed in with growing force, and demons descended to the battlefield. Just as battle reached a fever pitch, a massive tear opened in the sky — through it emerged Koma, Cosmos Serpent, a primordial being so vast it dwarfed the battlefield. As all factions paused in awe and terror, Koma glided toward the rift into the undead realm of Karfell and disappeared into it, disrupting the undead flow.

At the same time, the rift Koma had entered through spilled forth an army of Valkyries from Starnheim, along with another planeswalker - Niko Aris. They slammed into the demons from above, clashing their steel with the dark hordes. Varragoth was in a personal battle with Tyvar, and King Harald summoned glowing snakes that attempted to stop the giant demon, to no avail. When Tyvar stabbed one of Varragoth's wings, Kaya saw her chance. She phased through the demon's arm and swung an axe clean through his throat. The demon staggered and collapsed, quickly bleeding out on the already blood-soaked ground.

With Koma gone and the tide turning, Halvar — now wielding the Sword of the Realms — completed his ritual. The Tyrite energy surged through the battlefield, and the Doomskar was sealed, banishing the undead and closing the rifts between realms. The gods soon followed, vanishing from the human realm as the danger to Kaldheim passed. In the aftermath, Tyvar accepted Kaya's invitation to travel the Multiverse, and Kaya learned Niko was from Theros and had no idea how to return.

However, all was not saved. While the gods and heroes were distracted, sealing the Doomskar, a darker intrusion occurred in secret. Deep within the Tyrite Sanctum, Esika, goddess of the World Tree, was mortally wounded by Vorinclex, a monstrous Phyrexian invader. Despite her divinity and her role in creating the Cosmos Elixir that granted godhood, she was powerless against him. As she lay dying, Vorinclex drew a sample of the sacred sap from the heart of the World Tree and opened a planar portal — magic unlike anything Esika had ever seen, and something that a being such as he should not be able to possess. From within the portal, Esika heard a voice welcoming Vorinclex back and heralding the next step toward "perfection."[1]
