Kjell is a human mystic from Kaldheim, who became a friend and mentor of Niko Aris.[1]
Description
Kjell is a broad-shouldered and skilled Kannah mystic, healer, and storyteller. He can communicate with the natural world and influence what his leader, Fynn, hears from his surroundings. Kjell wears snow fox pelts over his shoulders and a chain of green runestones that cast an eerie glow over his white fur. He has brown skin, and his braided beard is adorned with silver cuffs that click when he speaks. He carries a glowing rune-staff.
Kjell is playful yet watchful, a mentor to Niko Aris, and fiercely dedicated to his people. He is wise, guiding his companions with both humor and seriousness.[1]
History
Kjell accompanied Niko Aris at the Jutmaw outpost, a neutral ground between the sea and forests. Kjell mentored Niko, helping them adapt to their new environment. During a gambling game, Niko won a set of armor thanks to Kjell's guidance. As the group settled in the longhouse, tension arose between the Kannah and Omenseeker clans, spurred on by Birgi, which led to an all-out brawl. Kjell, though involved in the fight, was protected by Niko's magical abilities. The conflict was observed by the Valkyries Avtyr and Rytva, indicating the seriousness of the situation.[1]
During the conflict, Niko captured Avtyr in one of his shards, seeking to prevent further bloodshed by asking for help from Orhaft Stoneback, the Omenseeker Vedrune. When Niko rejoined Kjell, he announced his intention to seek out Starnheim in the flesh, and warn the Valkyries of the impending danger posed by Koma, the World Serpent, a decision supported by both Orhaft and Fynn. [1]
Before Niko left through Orhaft's portal, Birgi acknowledged Kjell's storytelling prowess and his importance in preserving their history and culture. Niko invited Kjell to join them on their journey to Starnheim, but Kjell declined, encouraging Niko to prove the naysayers wrong and do something remarkable. Kjell told Niko he would stay behind in Bretagard to manage the aftermath of the brawl and ensure Fynn received the necessary information. Niko departed for Starnheim, leaving Kjell on the beach, and the mystic stood reflecting on their brief but impactful friendship and the choices that defined their destinies. [1]
