The Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate Commander Decks are released together with Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. These are meant to be on-ramps to Commander.[2][3]

Description

There are four Commander decks. Each one features ten new-to-Magic cards not found in the main CLB set.[2] Party Time was designed by Gavin Verhey, Mind Flayarrrs by Ken Nagle, Draconic Dissent by Noah Millrod and Exit from Exile by Daniel Holt.[4]

The cards in the Commander decks have the same expansion code (CLB) and expansion symbol as the main set. The following reprints feature new art: Consuming Aberration, Sewer Nemesis, Guiltfeeder and Mizzium Mortars.

Party Time

R&D spent a bunch of time trying to make the Party mechanic work in Battle for Baldur's Gate, but there were two strikes against it. One, in D&D, there are twelve classes, not four. Two, the set wanted so many top-down designs that it didn't lend itself well to a mechanic that required a high as-fan of certain creature types. The compromise was using it in one of the Commander decks.[5]

Mind Flayarrrs

“  Stressed out? Relax—Captain N'ghathrod is here to take everything off your mind. The legendary captain of the space pirate ship Scavenger is ready to lead your army of mind flayers into battle . . . along with a mix of other horrors that will absolutely terrify your enemies. Horrors will be your best friends as this deck has plenty of cards that reward you for playing the Horror creature type. While horror might be the name of the game early on, eventually, you and N'ghathrod will want to stop scaring your opponents and start snacking on their juicy minds! A little bit of mill allows you to plumb the depths of your opponents’ knowledge and use it against them. You aren’t trying to mill all their cards, though: just enough to find some tantalizing thoughts for the taking. Then use Captain N'ghathrod’s reanimation abilities to steal your opponents’ best cards! But be careful. When a player leaves the game, anything you’ve stolen leaves with them, so be sure to save the player you’ve stolen the best permanents from for last.  ”
