Located inside the hollowed-out Mount Mercadia far beneath Mercadia City, the Subterranean Hangar once hosted a giant fleet of warships.
Description
The Subterranean Hangar inside the hollowed-out Mount Mercadia was a vast underground cavern, miles wide and deep, where colossal stone columns stretched from ceiling to floor. Some had been hollowed out into dwellings, their windows gleaming with light. Scaffolds wrapped around the columns, bristling with massive horns, while catwalks clung to stalactites and stalagmites. Aerial platforms and bridges crisscrossed the darkness like a tangled web, dotted with globe lights that shimmered like golden dew.[1]
Humans, Kyren, machines, and other creatures moved spiderlike across the walkways, carrying supplies and tools or tending to massive airships suspended in the vast space. These ships, many larger than the Weatherlight, hung moored from the cavern’s protrusions, their sleek, coppery-brown or black hulls bristling with cannons. Some resembled The Predator, though even more massive, with multiple masts and expansive decks. Others seemed to shift subtly as if hovering in place. Below, smaller dinghies ferried workers and cargo between ships, the labor continuing undeterred above the abyss.[1]
History
In 4205 AR, Squee stumbled upon the Subterranean Hangar after following the trail of a particularly juicy-looking bug, able to pass by guards due to his goblin status. He located the Weatherlight anchored in the hangar, but before he could report to Hanna, he was discovered by a Kyren, a Phyrexian dock worker, and knocked out.[1]
During the Revolution on Mercadia, the Hangar became the site of a climactic battle when Gerrard Capashen and the crew of the Skyship Weatherlight, alongside rebel forces from the Cho-Arrim, Saprazzans, and Rishadans, launched an assault to reclaim their ship. The ensuing conflict saw the destruction of the Phyrexian fleet, the downfall of the Kyren, and the collapse of Mercadia’s corrupt regime. In the aftermath, the hangar was abandoned, its broken war machines left to decay, serving as a solemn monument to the battle that reshaped Mercadia’s future.[1]
