Aerath[1] is a small city-state in the Blue Mountains of Jamuraa on the plane of Dominaria. The Aerathi are known as powerful and brutish warriors.

History

During Johan's War, Johan sent assassins to murder the three Aerathi clan chiefs of the Blue Mountains. They succeeded, and the Aerathi were subjugated into joining Johan's army.[1] Upon Johan's death, however, the Aerathi freed themselves from the Northern Realms and became independent once more.[2]

In addition to their Blue Mountains home, the Aerathi also once lived as a free and proud island nation in the sea off the coast of Jamuraa, but the kentsu attacked it on order by the Madaran emperor Nicol Bolas. When the Aerathi refused to surrender to the Madaran Empire, the kentsu destroyed the entire island, and the fewer than 1000 surviving Aerathi were forced to serve in the kentsu itself and became the army's elite troops.[3]

When the Aerathi Berserker Jorgan Hage killed General Marhault Elsdragon and took his place as leader of the kentsu, many Aerathi were promoted among their ranks, but not long afterwards Hage himself was killed in battle, and the Aerathi troops were decimated by Tetsuo Umezawa, Wasitora and Kolo Meha. After Emperor Nicol Bolas was killed, the Madaran Empire fell into chaos. Those Aerathi who remained on the island chain claimed a blood debt between themselves and Tetsuo Umezawa and his companion Ayesha Tanaka.[4] The outcome of this potential conflict is unknown, but it is known that the line of Umezawa survives on Madara in present day in the form of the fugitive Tetsuko Umezawa.
