Umezawa Manor is the ancestral home of the Clan Umezawa. It is one of the largest buildings on Madara, and at the time of Tetsuo Umezawa's battle with Nicol Bolas, it had stood for almost 400 years, since the earliest days of Madara's first emperor.[1] This means that the manor presumably was built by Toshiro Umezawa, as he arrived on Madara precisely at that time.[2]
Description
The manor is located on the edge of a marsh between two forks of the Suido River, near the foot of the Gitte-Yatay Mountains. It lies west of the southern tip of the mountains and east of the great salt flats that cover the western portion of Madara.[3]
The manor is one of the largest buildings on Madara, a sprawling compound, with each Umezawa generation adding to the main dwelling, constructing outbuildings, or reclaiming viable land from the swamp. The first floor is dominated by a vast entry hall and a large formal dining room with enough space for 50 guests, while the second floor holds the private chambers of the family and their servants. The third floor is exclusively for the lord of the manor. A long wooden pole rises from the center of the peaked roof, displaying the crimson-and-black phoenix standard.[4]
Half an acre from the manor stands the schoolhouse, a smaller two-story structure containing a smithy and workshop in the basement. The walls are lined with exotic tools, and a magically enhanced forge is sunk into the floor. The upper floors are devoted to training space, with a large gymnasium on the ground level and four large classrooms on the top floor.[4]
The manor also has a prized lotus garden.[1]
History
Tetsuo Umezawa inherited the manor when he was young, and greatly expanded the manor's exterior and grounds since becoming Imperial Champion. The schoolhouse was used by Ayesha Tanaka and Kei Takahashi.[4]
During the Madara-Edemi War, the manor came under attack by Xira Arien, but she was thwarted by the manor's ownder, Tetsuo Umezawa, who afterwards chased her down and killed her.[1]
