Abu Ja'far is a storyteller from Rabiah who has explored many planes of the Multiverse in his lifetime.[1] He was rarely detained by authorities, as his incurable leprosy made him an unpopular prisoner. It is unknown by what means Abu Ja'far traveled to various worlds, but cross-planar portals existed specifically linked to Rabiah before the Mending.
Behind the scenes
The description of Abu Ja'far is similar to that of Raghib, who may have replaced Abu Ja'far in the storyline. He does not have a direct analogue in One Thousand and One Nights; Ja'far ibn Yahya was the real-world vizier of Harun al-Rashid, while King Yunan is the only prominent leper.[2] His name means "father of Ja'far", which itself means "stream".
