Kogla is a gigantic ape from the plane of Ikoria.[1]

While visiting Skysail, the planeswalker Vivien Reid witnessed an attack by a small flotilla of military airships, trying to rescue a young woman from the clutches of Kogla. However, it was quickly revealed that the girl was the bonder of the gigantic ape, much to the embarrassment of Skysail's soldiers.

March of the Machine

What do you get when you cross a giant, furious ape with a giant, spiny-backed turtle? You get forcibly impaled giant Phyrexians! Despite Kogla's enthusiastic and vigorous maneuvers, it's not clear if Yidaro knows that he's being functionally employed as a Phyrexian perforator. At the very least, he's aware of some occasional big jolts as he goes about his own fights, but thankfully they don't interfere with his own ferocious maulings.[2]

Trivia

  • Kogla is clearly inspired by King Kong, the famous movie monster. Its activated ability and its art depict a recreation of the famous scene where the giant ape climbs the Empire State Building with a girl in its hands, while airplanes are attacking it.
