Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate is a digital only release adjacent to the release of Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. This set combines a selection of cards from Battle for Baldur's Gate with cards from that set digitally rebalanced for 1v1 on Arena, and 81 brand new designed-for-digital cards ("Straight-to-Alchemy"). It introduces more than 250 cards to MTG Arena. The set, unlike previous Alchemy sets, is designed as a full drafting experience.

Except for cards that are exactly the same as in the paper sets, the Alchemy cards of this set have the Alchemy "A" as a "foil stamp" at the central bottom of the card. Other than previous Alchemy sets, this set features a circular expansion symbol.

The digital-only mechanics Conjure, Perpetually, Seek and Spellbook all return.
The digital-only mechanics Conjure, Perpetually, Seek, Intensity and Spellbook all return. Pack tactics and dice rolling return from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, and like for Battle for Baldur's Gate Adventure returns from Throne of Eldraine. Party from Zendikar Rising and Gates from Ravnica are present in a minor fashion.

This set introduces Specialize on reimagined cards Pay mana and discard a color/land type of your choice to change your card to that new card with its effects (the change depends on which color you discarded). These cards feature a circled upward-pointing triangle in the upper left corner of the card.

Another new mechanic is Double team When a creature with double team attacks, if it's not a token, conjure a duplicate of the original into your hand, and then both cards lose double team.

Boon is also a new-to-MTG Arena mechanic, and won't be exclusive to the Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate set. It is a way to represent delayed triggers, similar to an emblem, but once it triggers, it disappears.

Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate is a MTG Arena-exclusive card set that was released on the 7th of July 2022[2]. It is a set in the Alchemy-series.[3]

Description

Expansion symbol

Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate is a digital only release adjacent to the release of Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. This set combines a selection of cards from Battle for Baldur's Gate with cards from that set digitally rebalanced for 1v1 on Arena and 81 brand new designed-for-digital cards ("Straight-to-Alchemy"). It includes 286 cards (101 commons, 85 uncommons, 60 rares, 20 mythic rares, 20 basic lands). The set, unlike previous Alchemy sets, is designed as a full drafting experience.[4]

Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate includes returning commons and uncommons from Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, rebalanced cards for Alchemy from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate and Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, but also reimagined cards. Reimagined cards feature the same art as the card they are based upon, but have a new card name and new rules text.[5]

Revised Alchemy card stamp

Except for cards that are the same as in the paper sets, the Alchemy cards of this set have the Alchemy "A" as a "foil stamp" at the central bottom of the card. In a change from previous Alchemy sets, this set features a circular expansion symbol.

On August 11, 2022, Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate became the first set to have cards rebalanced specifically for limited gameplay.[6]

Mechanics

The digital-only mechanics Conjure, Perpetually, Seek, Intensity and Spellbook all return. Pack tactics and dice rolling return from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, and like for Battle for Baldur's Gate Adventure returns from Throne of Eldraine. Party from Zendikar Rising and Gates from Ravnica are present in a minor fashion.

This set introduces Specialize on reimagined cards — Pay mana and discard a color/land type of your choice to change your card to that new card with its effects (the change depends on which color you discarded). These cards feature a circled upward-pointing triangle in the upper left corner of the card.[7]

Another new mechanic is Double team — When a creature with double team attacks, if it's not a token, conjure a duplicate of the original into your hand, and then both cards lose the ability.[7]

Boon is also a new-to-MTG Arena mechanic, and won't be exclusive to the Alchemy Horizons: Baldur's Gate set. It is a way to represent delayed triggers, similar to an emblem, but once it triggers, it disappears.[7]
