Kaladesh is thrown into Chaos as Tezzeret seizes control of its wondrous inventions and the city's aether supply. What are the metal mage's true motives? Why is he on Kaladesh?
”
There are five matches with 60-card preconstructed decks against a series of computer-controlled opponents.
The first match of the campaign has the Ajani versus the computer with Dovin Baan.
“
Ajani rushed to Kaladesh as soon as he learned of Tezzeret’s presence on the plane. Since then, he has witnessed changes in the Consulate under Tezzeret ripple through Kaladesh—innocents imprisoned, inventions banned, and the city’s vital aether supply curtailed. As he moves through the city, he is accosted by Consulate authorities led by Dovin Baan.[2]
After fending off his Consulate attackers, Ajani proceeds to the renegade gathering, where Pia and Chandra Nalaar greet him warmly. They’ve gathered at the Aether Hub, a central routing station for the entire city’s aether supply.[2]
”
Second mission
In the second match, the player takes control of Pia and Yahenni with a deck. They face the mono-White Consulate.
“
At Tezzeret’s behest, Consulate forces divert the city’s vital aether to the Consulate Spire for his mysterious purposes. Outraged renegades gather outside the Aether Hub, including Pia Nalaar and the charismatic aetherborn named Yahenni.[2]
Pia and the renegade forces launch an explosive attack to reclaim the Aether Hub. They manage to wrestle it away from Consulate control and restore vital aether to the city’s inhabitants.[2]
”
Third mission
For the third campaign match, the player takes the role of the antagonist Baral. His deck faces Chandra's one.
“
From outside the Aether Hub comes the taunting voice of the Consulate’s chief inspector, Baral. He challenges Chandra to combat, counting on her reckless nature to lure out the impulsive pyromancer and split the renegade forces.[2]
Baral’s ploy diverts Chandra away from her renegade companions, allowing the Consulate to retake the Aether Hub. Pia and the other renegades realize defeat is imminent. They manage to tear away a furious but apologetic Chandra just in time to board their airship and escape. It’s time to regroup, gather reinforcements, and engage Tezzeret at the Consulate Spire.[2]
”
Fourth mission
The fourth match is Tezzeret's artifact-focused deck against Liliana's horde of Zombies.
“
Tezzeret has closed his grip over the city from his place at the head of the Consulate. On the steps of the Consulate Spire, he is confronted by the Planeswalker Liliana Vess, who has arrived to face him on her own. Her ambition is admirable. But Tezzeret must end this threat decisively.[2]
As Tezzeret and Liliana clash on the steps of the Spire, the metal mage reveals his true goal: to seize a technology pioneered at the Inventors’ Fair. It is called the “Planar Bridge.” It provides passage through the Blind Eternities and allows for travel between planes. But his words are cut short by a rumbling overhead. Glancing skyward, Liliana sees the renegade forces approaching the Consulate Spire in colossal airships.[2]
Renegade forces advance on the Consulate Spire from air and land, but the defenses hold strong. Chandra and Gideon devise a desperate plan. They will launch themselves through the air and past the Consulate troops into the Spire to take out the Planar Bridge once and for all.[2]
The Planar Bridge is destroyed, but Tezzeret simply laughs. He reveals his work here has been in service to the dragon Nicol Bolas, and he also divulges the location of his master’s planar lair. Despite Ajani’s warning to avoid facing Bolas without reinforcements, the rest of the Gatewatch decide to press forward to Amonkhet.[2]
