The Kjeldoran Hinterlands was a large area, a stretch of Kjeldor bordering the Kher Ridges and the Karplusan Mountains.

Description

The Hinterlands are where the Northern Provinces had lain during the Dark Age before snow covered the land. What made Kjeld truly a nation was that most of its population dwelt in these rural areas, not in its three great cities. These were a tough, peasant people, farming the short summers and hard rocky ground, and were the basis for the legends of Kjeldoran stoicism, bravery, and patriotism. Glimmer Vale, a gulch of churned-up mica at the foot of Raynor Glacier, was located in the hinterlands.[1]

The Hinterlands' inhabitants mostly lived in small villages, and four of these are known by name - Breway, Freyta, Jarka, and Mikkel[2]. All of these villages fell to the armies of Lim-Dûl, with few survivors.[1]

The three large cities of Kjeld, Krov, and Soldev were not considered part of the Hinterlands.

History

The girl Varchild was born in the Hinterlands, and would later move to the capital of Krov and become General of the Kjeldoran armies. It was also the Hinterlands that hosted Zur the Enchanter after his revolt and faction splinter off from the Royal Academy of Magic.[1]

After the the Thaw and the union of Kjeldor and Balduvia, the hinterlands became part of New Argive.
