The Duskmourn Rescue Mission was a 4564 AR expedition into the nightmare-realm of Duskmourn to rescue Nashi from the demon Valgavoth and the Cult of Valgavoth.[1][2]
Description
Over a year after the New Phyrexian Invasion, Kaito Shizuki stole back a scroll recovered from Tamiyo's body and learned from the Wanderer that Nashi had disappeared, leaving behind footage of a strange door.[3] Determined to rescue him, Kaito recruited Tyvar Kell on Kaldheim, who insisted on bringing Niko Aris along. The three traveled to Ravnica via an Omenpath, where Niv-Mizzet had assembled additional specialists, including Zimone Wola and Aminatou. While Aminatou refused to enter Duskmourn, she provided the team with magical fateshifter tokens. Kaito, Tyvar, Niko, Zimone, and the Wanderer entered the door to Duskmourn.[1]
Inside, the group was quickly separated. Tyvar and Zimone became trapped in a shifting library, contended with cellarspawn, and uncovered the role of Marina Vendrell in Valgavoth's takeover of the plane.[4][5][6][7] Niko and the Wanderer encountered Winter, who helped them rescue Nashi from wickerfolk before betraying them to the Cult of Valgavoth to fulfill his bargain with the demon.[6][7] Meanwhile, Kaito was separated by a trap and encountered Jace Beleren, who had entered Duskmourn with Vraska in search of Loot. The two fought off a fear-born nightmare but later split after a falling-out, with Kaito returning to Ravnica.[5][6]
In the Cult's ceremonial chamber, Tyvar and Zimone reunited with and freed Nashi, Niko, and the Wanderer. They learned the cult was siphoning Tamiyo's stories from her echo to empower Valgavoth and expand the House's influence. Nashi destroyed the ghost trap, sustaining the echo to prevent further exploitation, accepting her loss.[2]
As Valgavoth confronted the survivors, Kaito returned to Duskmourn via an artificial Omenpath created by Alquist Proft using his magic, Aminatou's abilities, and a fragment of the House.[2] The group escaped through the portal to Ravnica, ending the mission. In its aftermath, Nashi resolved to carry on Tamiyo's storytelling legacy, while Tyvar visited Arcavios with Zimone.[2]
