Buzzard's Bay is a huge bay that lies on the Storm Coast, in south-western Jamuraa, on the plane of Dominaria. It is located south of the Jaema Sea, west of the Great Desert and Amrou Haven. Buzzard's Bay is also the name of a small port within the bay itself.

Description

The bay

Buzzard's Bay is riddled with jagged rocks, many lurking below the churning surface. So many ships wrecked on the rocks that the buzzards can't fly from gorging on smashed corpses that wash ashore, giving its name to the Buzzard's Bay. The southern branch of the bay is the safest, although still dangerous. That part is known as Witch's Weir, where lies the keep of Fulmart's Fort and the rocky shoreline of the Goat's Walk. The weir also holds a port named Buzzard's Bay.[1]

The port

The port of Buzzar's Bay was built to withstand wind and shed snow. The town's dwellings consist mostly of first stories of rough stone and second stories of pine boards or slabs, all roofed with cedar shakes green with moss and white from salt spray. In places the town elders have strewn clam and oyster shells tamped into hardpack, but most streets are mires of black mud studded with ankle-twisting stones. Behind every shop and house run rickety drying racks hung with fillets of split cod, herring, and hake that jitter and flutter in the wind and give the town a distinct odor. The town hosts a tavern called the Dandysprat, as well as the famous Seafarer's Quay and Adventurers' Guildhouse.[1]

History

The Bay was first inhabited after the end of the Ice Age, by humans descended from the same stock: tall, blond, thick-limbed, slow of speech but keen of mind.[1]

In 3334 AR, Emperor Johan of Tirras journeyed with an entourage to the port of Buzzard's Bay, looking for the famous library of Shauku. He found only a small local bookshop but tortured the location of Shauku's domain in Arboria from the bookseller Hebe before he killed her. He then hired two local bandits to ambush Adira Strongheart's party, who had been tracking him from Palmyra.[1]
